Terms to ponder before you start hacking

What is hacking?
Hacking is a process to bypass the security mechanisms of an information system or network.Hacking is done is steps partly by creative thinking and partly by using different tools at a time.
We can also define hacking as an unauthorized use of computer and network resources

What is an exploit?
An exploit is a piece of malware code that takes advantage of newly announced or unpatched vulnerability in a software application,usually the operating system or a web browser.

What is zero-day exploit?
A zero day exploit is an exploit that takes advantage of vulnerability on the same day that the vulnerability is announced

What is vulnerability?
Software applications are composed of millions of lines of programming code,errors creep into the code and some of these errors create security vulnerabilities that malefactors can take advantage of with exploits and other malware.

Computer Security is the protection of information from theft,corruption or natural disaster while allowing the information to remain accessible.

A vulnerability assesment is the process of identifying,quantifying and prioritizing the vulnerabilities in a system


What is penetration testing?
Penetration testing is a method of evaluating the security of computer system or network by simulating an attack from malicious source or cracker.

What is social engineering?
Social engineering is the act of manipulating people into performing hacking actions or disclosure of confidential information. In most cases attacker do not come face to face
